The
Violet
Gallery is located in York Springs, Pa, about 12 miles north
of Gettysburg.
Call (717)528-8268 or email for directions.
York Springs is one of those towns that seems to be in the
middle of nowhere, but just an hour or so from everywhere!
Of course Gettysburg
is in our backyard with the museums, tours, Eisenhower's Farm,
and battle field. Within an hour of here, you can visit Harrisburg
(our
state capitol), Hershey, and Lancaster County. Hershey
is the only town I know of that smells like a candy bar. A
tour of the chocolate factory is interesting and fun. If you
have kids (or you are a kid at heart), you can easily spend
a day at Hershey Amusement Park. There are also concerts
and plays at Hershey
Theater. We've got us some culture here in central PA,
ya know!
If you want to witness a simpler life, you've got
to visit Lancaster
County. You can easily spend a couple of days there. Some
of the towns off of the beaten path, like Blue Ball or Paradise
are fun to visit. The melding of the cultures is very interesting.
How many Walmarts have you been to with a horse and buggy
tethered to the light post? And if you like to shop, there
are several BIG outlet malls. Of course Harrisburg has the
state capitol building, museums, and a nice River Front Park
along the Susquehanna River.
If
you venture out about 2 hours from York Springs, you can be
in Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD or Philadelphia,
PA. You can easily spend several days in Washington. There
are all the monuments, museums (it can take a couple of days
to see the Smithsonian
alone), capitol, zoo, Arlington Cemetery, and more. We like
to go to the Kennedy
Center to see some shows (more culture). Downtown Washington
is very pretty and clean. It's easy to see your tax dollars
at work! Baltimore,
downtown has been renovated around the Inner
Harbor. It's full of quaint little shops and restaurants
and parks along the harbour of the Chesapeake Bay. The Baltimore
Aquarium and Science Museum are there. In the summer you can
always watch the Orioles play a game at
Camden Yards. It's right at the Inner Harbor. Venture down
the road about 25 miles to Annapolis
(Maryland's capitol). It is a great, beautiful little town with
lots of shops and lots of water. It's one of my favorite places
to visit. The sail boats around there are incredible. Philadelphia,
of course, has a lot of the history from the Revolutionary
War period, with museums, parks, Liberty Bell, etc.
As
I write this, it makes me want to take a day trip somewhere!
As you can see, it would be easy to combine a trip to Violet
Gallery with several other fun things to do. Why not plan
to spend a couple of days in central Pa? Hope to see you soon.
