The
Violet Gallery has
been attending flower shows since 1989. Check
back regularly for new shows added to our calendar. The following shows have currently been confirmed for 2011
.
The BIG show for us in March is the Philadelphia International Flower Show. It's held at the Philadelphia Convention Center, 12th and Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. It runs from Sunday March 4 through Sunday March 11, 2012. This year feel free to wear your insulated hula skirt to the show - the theme is, "Hawaii, Islands of Aloha". Again this year we are selling under the name of Violet Rainbow. We may be selling under the Violet Rainbow name, but it's still Brenda and Mahlen with the help of our daughter and some friends. The flower show has a completely new floor plan this year for venders and we have a new booth space. Look for Violet Rainbow in booths #318 & #419. This show is promoted as the biggest indoor flower show in the world, and at 33 acres it lives up to those claims. The displays and gardens you see here rival anything you will find anywhere. If you have never attended this show, you really should put it on your schedule. I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
The Dixie African Violet Convention - April 19-21 (to the public) in Myrtle Beach, SC. This is a southern regional show which moves around in the southern states from Florida to Tennessee. This year it is being held at the Beach Cove Resort, 4800 S. Ocean Blvd., North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. The theme for the show this year is "Violets By The Sea". We often cannot do this show because of scheduling conflicts, but this year we will be selling there. So come on down and experience some of that famous "southern hospitality" and take home some violets while you are here.
The African Violet Society Of America (AVSA) National Convention - June 3-10 at the GM Renaisance Center, Detroit, MI 48243. This year this is a joint convention with the Canadian African Violet Society. The Sales Room is open to the public on June 8 & June 9. The AVSA has worldwide membership. If you join AVSA and register for the show, you can get into the sales room on Thursday and join many tours and workshops on growing African Violets earlier in the week. For the full schedule and more info click the link above and click Convention. At this show you will find some of the most knowledgable people in the world on African Violets. So come on up to Mo-town and drive away with some unique African Violets.
IThe Ohio State African Violet Show - September 14 & 15. The show is being held again at the Kingwood Center, 900 Park Avenue, Mansfield, OH 44906. This is a great end-of-summer show. Even if you are not into African Violets, you should visit the Kingwood Center and tour their acres of gardens. They are fabulous! There is a small parking fee, but sometimes even that is waived during the show. There are some tours you can pay to join at Kingwood Center, but I haven't found it necessary to do that. There is plenty to see for free. If you are in the area, please stop in and spend some time (and money!!) in the violet Market Place. And when you tour those gardens, watch you don't step on a peacock!
The Brethren Disaster Relief Auction - September 21 & 22 at the Lebanon Convention Center, Lebanon, PA. This is a great event with almost a fair-like atomsphere. All proceeds from this event benefit the Church Of The Brethren Disaster Relief Fund. The money raised is used to help people and communities that have experienced disasters (like hurricane, tornado, or flood damage). The Church of the Brethren is very service oriented. There are a number of events going on at all times (auctions, sales, concerts) along with great home-style cooking. Fortunately, everyone has forgotten about their New Year's Resolution about dieting by this time and they can pig-out on homemade pies, donuts, apple dumplins, sticky buns.....and the list goes on. Parking and admission are free. It's hard to leave this place empty-handed or hungry.
The Mid-Atlantic African Violet Society Show (MAAVS) - November 8-11 in Richmond, VA. It is being held at the Sheritan Richmond Park South Hotel, 9901 Midlothian Turnpike, Richmond, VA 23235. This is another great regional show. It moves around the Mid-Atlantic Region from North Carolina to New York. Members from all the Mid-Atlantic African Violet clubs are invited to this show. If you like African Violets, you should make every effort to attend. There are many vendors and hybridizers at this show across the country. The Sales Room is open Friday and Saturday.
