Growing To Show
by Pauline Bartholomew and the African Violet Society of America
Revised 2008 Edition

The 1990 edition of this book has been our violet "bible" for years. As with everything else on this site, we don't sell anything that we don't use and cannot highly recommend. The new edition of this book is updated with some colored pictures and some newer violet trends such as using Mail Order, Web Sites, Show Classes, etc. There is a good section on Oyama Planters and Leaf Support Rings (btw, we do sell both of those!!).  If there is one thing wrong with this book it's the title! Even if you have no interest in growing to show your violets, this is a great book on "growing to grow". It covers propogation from leaf cuttings, temperature, fertilizer, light, potting mixtures, watering methods, and so much more. This is a great "how to" on growing them, keeping them alive, and getting them to bloom book. And if eventually you do want to show your plants, the last part of the book is dedicated to obtaining symmetry of the plants and having them blooming at show time. This book is most highly recommended by Mahlen and Brenda, here at Violet Gallery and worth several times the price.
